Baby Girl Nursery Inspiration

I mentioned that two really exciting things are happening to my family this year…..we are in the process of building a house and after having two boys we are welcoming a little girl into our world this spring!!!

I am over the moon happy! And the type A personality in me wants to starts planning and getting her nursery ready….but right now our house is bursting at the seams! She will only live here the first few months of her life (probably next to our bed).  So, I won’t set up the nursery until we move.

This is killing me!

When my second, Henry was born, I think I had his nursery set and finished when I was 28 weeks (I’m 26 weeks right now). So, I think I need to gather my thoughts….and probably start ordering stuff so I can make it a priority once we move.

I’ll be honest, I’m overwhelmed.  I like pink, but don’ t want to have her room look like a bottle of Pepto Bismol exploded in….I am thinking wallpaper this time.  Florals, pinks, beiges and golds…..

{This post does include SOME affiliate links, but these are all MY opinions and I am sharing the LOVE I have for these pieces}

How cute is this! I can totally see me using this wallpaper print in her room. It is so cute and delicate. It isn’t too pink, which I wanted to avoid, but super delicate and girly.  I think it is a print that can grow with my her from a baby into a young girl and beyond.

I have had a slight (major)  obsession with Jenny Lind when I first got pregnant with my first baby….but then found out it was a boy! So, I never got around to buying this crib! I hope this time I can make it happen.  I LOVE everything about the old fashion look, but it comes with the modern conveniences (and safety) aspects new modern gear.

DaVinci Jenny Lind 3-in-1 Convertible Crib, White

I have this one already in Henry’s room.  This shelving piece has taken a beating and still is standing up pretty well.  I like how you can just throw all of the toys in the bin to clean up quickly. I will be moving this one to the baby girl’s room.

Lighting is so important.  And, I love this whimsical floor lamp.  I don’t want anything too heavy looking in the room.  This seems to keep everything light and airy.

In all of my kids nursery’s I have started their decor with their name.  Pretty basic, right? But, I always like to personalize it.  While we don’t have a name set (just yet….stay tuned)! These letters are an adorable font style!

I know that this is just the start….but I am in LOVE with the wallpaper….everything will just have to match it.  What else would look good in her room?

I Might Be the Mom the Internet Hates.

I like my home to be clean. I shower and put on make-up daily. I like to make home made dinners. I smile and am usually a positive person. Apparently that makes me the most annoying mom on the internet.

No…..I’m not at all (remotely or even kind of close to) perfect. But, it seems lately online, if you are a stay at home mom and like the gig, so many mom blogger wants to make you feel bad for it. I am assuming most of these posts I hear are tongue and cheek.  I actually can get a good laugh from some pieces.  But I wonder if there is any seriousness to what they are saying.  Like everyone else….I have bad days (like yesterday….pregnant, exhausted and a non-napping, teething toddler).  But for the most part I love what I do!

I love to dress my kiddos in matching outfits.

Land Of Nod: Design for Kids and People That Used to be Kids

I think it just part of how I was raised and my own type A personality, but I hate a mess and want things done ‘just so’. I will be the first person to admit I am a bit of a control freak.  And yes, I have been known to complain to my husband after a long day with the kids…..that’s just natural.  But I know when I wake up in the morning it is a chance to start fresh and put positive, happy vibes into the world.

I’ve actually gotten the side eye when I showed up to a play date freshly showered and in full make-up.  I don’t think any less of moms who don’t do these thing. I think we all need to do what we need to do to get through the day.

Just because my house is (usually) clean does not mean I neglect my children. Freshly vacuumed carpets and gleaming kitchen counters make me feel calm and in control. Again, I’m not saying there is ANYTHING wrong with not doing it…..I just don’t like going to bed with dirty dishes in the sink.

And I LOVE Pintrest.  Seriously, I do.  I find it inspirational… give me great ideas and lets me show off my creativity.  I don’t scroll through it and hate all of the pretty pins of cute ideas.  I happen to think making a cupcake that looks like a lamb is a wonderful idea for a barnyard first birthday!

Pintrest birthday party for the win!!

Yes, I often coordinate my kids outfits when we go out to dinner.

Yes, I do my best to bake homemade treats for my kid’s classroom parties.

Yes, I iron all of our pillowcases because I like them to look crisp. (Even I will admit this might be going too far).

These things make me happy! And if I am happy, I can enjoy the time (which is most of my time) with my family.  In my opinion, being happy just does not come easily for everyone. Sure we all have happy (and sad) moments in life, but to be a genuinely happy person takes a little effort and work.

I want to know that I have given my best to everyday.  I look back at old pictures and remember that I really did enjoy that trip to the zoo, or birthday party.  Maybe it took me some extra effort, but to me it was worth it.

Winter Maternity Must Haves

My first two babies were summer babies.  So, my maternity clothes were basically a few summer dresses….this time around I am getting into the thick of things right in the middle of the winter! Baby girl is due around Easter.  Just another excuse to shop, right? Kind of.  Maternity shopping can be stressful and often and an expensive endeavor when you will only be wearing the pieces for a few months.

I have found that getting several basic pieces can go far with the addition of what is already in your closet! Open sweaters, cardigans, scarves, athletic wear (i.e. stretchy clothes) and accessories can really take your maternity wardrobe from BORING and basic to well…….more like you! Interesting and fashionable without breaking the bank.  Here are a few pieces that I have LIVED in so far.

{This post contains affiliate links}

I live in these.  I have several pairs of these Rosie Pope leggings. They have become my go to.  Like almost EVERYDAY.  They are not too thin (especially for the cold winter months). But are super soft and stretchy.

Maternity Jeans

These are also a must-have.  Get a style or two of jeans you like and feel good in! These are from Pea in the Pod and again are pretty soft.  They also have the ‘secret belly’ panel.  I am partial to that type of maternity jeans.  I like the support and coverage in them. Aaaannnnddd…..they are easy on the pocket book!

Layering Camis

In colder months, I often put a cami on and layer it with a open (non maternity) sweater or hoodie.  Finding basic black and white ones that are long enough are sometimes a challenge.  These Ingrid & Isabel ones are smooth and don’t pile and will keep their shape after a several washes.

Stretchy Long Sleeve Tops

The name of the game is layering in the winter! Stretchy long sleeve tops will go from the fall through the spring (and grow with you too)! Get several in different colors and styles so you don’t get bored.  I like the ease and versatility of this Jessica Simpson style.

Go-To Dress

When leggings and jeans wont work, do yourself a favor and get a simple dress that you can change the look with different jewelry and accessories.  This one is from Ingrid & Isabel and comes in several different colors.  I’m a big fan of this dress, because it is pretty flattering even for post-baby wear.

Date Night Shirt

Just because you can’t drink martinis, does not mean you can’t get dressed up for a night on the town with your husband or girlfriends.  Invest in one or two fun shirts that make you feel cute!

And, here are a few items that I personally think are a waste of money:

  • Maternity underwear.  They have just never seemed necessary to me! My regular ones worked just fine.
  • Winter maternity jacket.  My current jacket still fits me and actually looks kind of cute when I add a belt to it! If I get to a point where I can’t zip it, and am freezing, I might change my mind….but I am just going from the car into a building.  It’s not like I’m going skiing this winter.
  • Maternity cardigans.  I will never understand why they sell MATERNITY open sweaters……it just does not make sense!!

What are your favorite ‘basic’ maternity must-haves?

Hospital List for C-Section Mamas

This spring I will have my third c-section.  At this point I feel like I might be some sort of a mama expert in this field.  No, it’s not the ‘easy way out’…..that is for another post, but there are a few things I like, being a type A personality.  With two older kids in the mix, I can figure out childcare ahead of schedule and wont potentially have to scramble to find someone in the middle of the night. And, the fact that I am a planner, at this point I know exactly what to put into my hospital bag!

While I think most of these items would be benificial for ANY mama in the hospital who just had a baby, these are essentials for c-section mamas.

Pre-Moistened Make-Up Wipes

After your c-section it is pretty difficult to get up and about in the first 24 hours after your surgery.  These wipes were excellent to help me freshen up and get the oil off of my face.  They made me feel a little more human and refreshed.

Neutrogena Deep Clean Makeup Removers, Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes, 25-Count (Pack of 6)

Disposable Toothbrushes

Same story here. First thing in the morning I need to brush my teeth.  So, this just makes your life a little easier for a while.  While these toothbrushes might not have the exact same results of really brushing with toothpaste and water, it just freshens you up (especially if you have visitors coming)!

These were not around last time I was in the hospital, but I will be bringing it with me this time! I am a huge believer of the Yeti.  I like ice in my drinks (and love hospital ice……I’m not the only one, right)? The styrofoam cups provided at the hospital are okay, but the ice still melts too quickly.  You are not about to go venturing out looking for ice.  Seriously, this will keep your ice frozen all day.  It’s the little things.

Fold-Over Waistband Yoga Pants

You will NEED these.  The softer the better.  I like them, because they can be adjusted to fall on your waste where ever they make you feel comfortable. Probably high above your incision site. In normal life, you might be a low rider pants type of girl…..but now is not the time for fashion. These yoga pants are easy on….easy off…Lots of room (possibly get a size up).

Under Eye Concealer

You will be tired.  And there will be a lot of pictures.  Just a little dab under the eyes and you will look like a new person! I’m not saying you should put a full face of make-up on (but feel free to do so)! I love this brand of under eye concealer.  It is inexpensive and works like a charm!

Bumpdate: 23 weeks

FEELING: Really Pregnant! I know I am just past half-way there…..but for some reason I feel like I am 33 weeks.  Overall, I feel healthy and have energy, but I do think twice about picking something up off the ground when I drop it……that takes a lot of effort.

CRAVING: Junk food…..I wish I craved carrots and Greek yogurt….sadly I will take an Oreo over that any day.  I’m trying to indulge in moderation…..but during the past holiday weekend it has been difficult! Also- I can’t eat chicken.  It sounds horrible to me.

WARDROBE: Legging! Mostly maternity clothes. Luckily I have a good amount of sweaters that I can still fit into  (so far).  Jeans have become my ‘dress up’ clothes.

I am feeling great! I can feel kicks and tons of movement….which I love.

I am still working out at the gym about four times a week.  I think that has really helped me through the nausea.  At this I am starting to slow down a bit.  I realize that I don’t have to go full blast on the stair master right now.  As for my strength training….I am still doing it but with lighter weights and more reps.

So much is changing in our lives. This seems to be the calm before the storm.  Our last Christmas at our current house (that is bittersweet).  Soon, and I am sure all at once, I will be ready to have a baby, moving into a brand new home and selling and packing up our current house.  I just need to take things in stride. Wish us luck!!

Last Minute Gift Guide For The Women In Your Life

I’m sure by this time of the year you have finished shopping for the kiddos….but did you forget about some of the most important women in your life? Mom? Best friend? Work colleague? Don’t worry! You’re not alone! Here are a few of my favorite things.  Best part? Everything on here is under $25.00 and will be shipped for free within three business day! So, don’t delay! {Affiliate Links}

DO NOT….I repeat DO NOT forget this person.  This is the person who has and will do anything for you.  This is my mom’s favorite perfume brand.  It looks and smells luxurious.

She is the girl you tell anything! You can vent and complain….and she still thinks you are awesome.  Show her some love with this sweet nail polish set. I love these colors for the holidays and beyond (classic red is always in).

Do you have someone at work that you sneak away with for coffee? She will help you out in a pinch? I have never tried bath salts before these…..but these are one of my favorite go-to’s for relaxing! She might need it after working late (helping you meet your deadline).

We all have one, right? We can show up at her house with your kiddos and no make-up. She will feed you coffee and not judge you for suggesting you turn on the long Mickey Mouse episode so you can take a break from your kids.  She needs one too. She will need this body scrub to brighten her up and hide the fact that she didn’t get any sleep last night either.

This person is often overlooked….and she is such an important woman (or young woman) in your life! Don’t take her for granted! If your kids love her, you should love her too. You don’t need to spend a ton of money on her, but show her that you appreciate her.  I love this lip gloss kit.

Why I Workout

I’ve always had a love/ hate relationship with working out. I’ve tried it all. Yoga, running, and spinning. You get the point. I’ve always based how good my workout was on the amount of calories burned and how much I was in pain the next day. Most of the time I hated it.

I never understood (or believed) the people who claimed running was ‘addictive’. I thought they were full of it. To me running was the absolute worst thing to do. Ever.

I wanted to be strong and healthy, but lets face it.  I’m vain.  I mostly wanted to look good.  No matter how hard I worked out, I was not losing the weight.  Something had to change.  The week before Easter I joined Weight Watchers and started tracking my food online. That’s when things started to click.

I also joined a new gym. This was big. I was intimidated. So much Lululemon and spandex! It had great childcare and a deal on personal training.  Something I’ve always wanted to do, but never got the guts up to take that step. Gulp.  The thought was terrifying.  Having a really fit person tell you what to do and force you to finish! I couldn’t just give up if it got too hard.

I have always said doing something that terrifies you can reap the best results.  So I did it. I signed on the line and handed over my credit card.

It started out hard. Like almost impossible hard. I sweated and swore a lot.  But my trainer just smiled and told me I could do it.  A push up….are you crazy?  Ten sit-ups (not crunches) in a row? Are you trying to kill me?

But I did it.  After a few months, I could do several push ups in a row.  I was starting to do things that I never thought I could do.  And, I didn’t hate looking in the mirror.  This was huge. Most days I started the morning at the gym with no makeup on and my hair up in a messy ponytail.  And…..I didn’t think I looked horrible! In my world, no makeup, wearing spandex, STARING AT A MIRROR DOING SQUATS….and not hating the reflection? HUGE accomplishment.

Me and my babybump.
Now, let’s also be real.  Sometimes when I am working out I see a woman next to me with a body I would KILL for…..I feel a little less than good about myself.  But, I need to remember that I see her there almost everyday.  She’s working hard for it too….and I’m also 20 weeks pregnant.  My mid-section looks a little less then desirable (in my opinion) at this stage. So I’ll give myself a pass on that for now.

In about four months I lost 22 pounds, went down two sizes, was able to run 1.5 miles without stopping and could do push-ups and plank for 45 seconds! And I’ve gained the confidence to push and not give up. This has not come easy….. but I didn’t give up. I could actually see my muscles on my biceps and triceps. And, maybe the best thing of all…..Charlie, my four-year-old, is so proud of me.  He keeps telling me how strong I am and ask me if he can see my ‘pipes’.

My ‘weapons’ of choice.
So, I may not be exactly where I want to be fitness-wise, but am a lot closer then I was a year ago. A few things that really kept me going was that I was paying for the training……If I was going to invest in myself I need to be true to myself. I didn’t want that money to go to waste.  The money really made me accountable for my actions. Second, I wanted to feel good about myself and be a healthy example for my kids.  We talk a lot about being strong and healthy at home, and I didn’t want to just talk the talk.

I’m not perfect. Far from it. I’ve got a long road to go….but it helps if you can run part of it and not hate the way your butt looks.
